Buckeye Balls

1 1/2 c creamy peanut butter
1/2 c butter or margarine (1 stick)
1 t vanilla
1 pound of powered sugar (4 cups)
6 oz package chocolate chips
2 T shortening

Line a baking sheet with wax paper. In a medium size bowl mix peanut
butter, butter, vanilla, and sugar with hands to form a smooth dough.
Mixture will be very stiff. Shape into balls, using 2 teaspoons of
dough for each. Place on wax paper and put in refridge. Melt chocolate
and shortening together (add a little paraffin if you want too – I
don’t) When smooth, pour into a small bowl. Remove peanut butter balls
from refridge. Insert a toothpick into the top of each ball and dip
ball into chocolate until about 3/4th of the ball is coated. Return to
wax paper chocolate side down and remove tooth pick. Put back in
fridge until chocolate is firm and no longer sticky. Store in plastic
containers with sheets of wax paper between layers. Makes about 5
